The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever lyrics meaning

Meaning

The Victorian building that housed the Strawberry Fields orphanage was torn down in 1977, and replaced with a rectangular house named Lennon Hall. Both John and Yoko Ono donated money to the cause; John offering funds before he died (as well as in his will), Yoko donating $375,000 in 1984, some years after her husband's death.

In 2005, the Salvation Army closed the children's home permanently, stating that its children would be better raised in foster homes than in a large orphanage.

In New York City, across from The Dakota (the building where John Lennon lived prior to his assassination), stands a memorial to Lennon in Central Park called 'Strawberry Fields'.
