The Beatles - Happiness Is a Warm Gun lyrics meaning

Of the song’s title, Lennon claimed:

"I think [producer George Martin] showed me a cover of a magazine that said 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun.' It was a gun magazine. I just thought it was a fantastic, insane thing to say. A warm gun means you just shot something."

Later, he admitted to a sexual innuendo behind the title:

“That was the beginning of my relationship with Yoko [Ono] and I was very sexually oriented then.”

The colloquial phrase “happiness is a...” originates from the Peanuts comic book, whose author Charles M. Schulz asserted that “happiness is a warm puppy”.
