Billy Davey's daughter
As revealed on Stereophonics fan site WordGetsAround.org, 'Billy Davey's Daughter' was one of the oldest tracks on debut album 'Word Gets Around', and in fact still exists in a markedly different demo version recorded by the band's first incarnation, Tragic Love Company:
"A very old track, Kelly wrote the lyrics for this in Autumn 1993. The earliest known recording of this from the Tragic Love Company demo is a lot faster and features an extra verse - well worth trying to find…"
Fortunately for you folks, we've hunted down the original version:
The band were known as Tragic Love Company right up until shortly before they were signed, when murmurs of disapproval from record labels prompted them to change their name to The Stereophonics (after the manufacturer of drummer Stuart Cable's father's old radiogram). When the band were snapped up by V2, they dropped 'the' off the front of their name.
